Patrolling off the coast of occupied Japan
After the surrender, the USS Hughes participated in the initial occupation of Ominato Naval Base and Northern Honshu and Hokkaido, Japan while attached to the North Pacific Force. The days consisted mostly of patrolling the sea off the coast of Japan and inspecting any passing ships.
On October 4th, they hold a ceremony on board for two men who were awarded the Bronze Star for their actions during the kamikaze attack on December 10th, 1944.
