Battling Planes and Maitre Witnesses Friendly Fire
The Champlin sees action on the second day of the invasion when they are attacked by a German Focke-Wulf 190 (Fw 190), but the plane escapes with no damage. Robert and the crew of the Champlin then witness nearby LST ships misidentify an American plane for an enemy plane and watch them shoot it down. The plane crashed and exploded on the beach in front of them.
